POP EXPRESSIONISM

Following in the footsteps of Pop Art Artists, I take my inspiration from the simplistic style of comics.
I see it as an ideal medium to illustrate our social fantasies. A major theme of my work is the Judeo-Christian bipolar values of good and evil. I investigate symbols and stereotypes. Like a charade, a play on images, I put on display paintings whose association brings to light the arch messages that our society forwards to us.

EXPO CUT-UP Paul Abraham & Paul Brunet - MONTREAL

The painters duet, Paul Abraham and Paul Brunet, is back with the exhibition Cut-up at the Maison de la culture Rosemont - La Petite-Patrie. For the past three years, this collaboration between them is self-evident. Being both artists whose practice in painting articulates and defends a reflection, rare in Quebec, on the contribution of comics to contemporary art.
A selection of recent works by each of the artists is presented here, proposing a narrative path that establishes a dialogue between works initially created without links between them. Following the concept of Cut-up, an editing process based on fragmentation dear to William S. Burroughs, the artists bring out an unexpected narrative between the gathered works.
Woodland scenes representation is the common thread. Environment conducive to our daydreams or our nightmares, generic birthplace of humanity; the forest attracts us and worries us both. There is something in the woods that we do not want to see or that we are just afraid to discover.
