Here’s an extract of the “Blue line exhibition” text at the Southern Alberta Art Gallery, guest curated by Michael Campbell, Janice Rahn, and Jarrett Duncan. The exhibition was on Comic art with artists like Crumb.This text illustrates what is to my eyes the power of the comics and why it can bring something fresh and vital to Contemporary Art:

As a medium, comics afford the possibility of visually representing and voicing elements of the culturally callous and grotesque, the perverse and the raucous, and the sacred or taboo elements of everyday life. Often veiled in political correctness, comic narratives bring unspoken voices to the forefront, in philosophical, political, and social commentary. Using the playfulness of comedy and whimsical imagery, comics have a way of underscoring social uneasiness, anxiety, and the hypocrisies embodied in the human condition...”

Ballade à NYC - NYC stroll

Je ne pouvais manquer la rétrospective New Yorkaise d'un de mes artistes préférés : Frank Stella.

Pour son ouverture le nouveau Whitney Museum lui consacre un étage entier, cela ne m'aurais pas dérangé qu'ils utilisent les trois étages ! Le panorama de l'oeuvre de Stella est relativement complet. Je constate que son talent de sculpteur, quand tout apport de peinture est absent est discutable. Je n'ai pas été très impressionné par la plupart de ses dernières sculptures mis à part peut-être “Black Star” qui était exposée sur la terrasse, faisant nuit je n'ai pu la prendre en photo. Pour le reste de l'expo: génial ! Quelques images ci-dessous.

I couldn't miss the New work retrospective of one of my favorite artists : Frank Stella. For it's opening the New Whitney Museum dedicates an entire floor to the artist, I've wouldn't have minded that they used the three floors to the show ! The overview of Stella's body of work is quite good. I feel that his talent as a sculptor when no painting is involved is questionnable. I wasn't really impressed by the majority of his latest sculptures, except perhaps “Black Star” that was shown on the terrasse and sadly couldn't take a picture being in the dark. For the rest of the show : Fantastic !

Édition limitée et signée de COWGIRL STORY #1 limited and signed edition

Bonjour à tous, je viens de faire faire un scan haute résolution de mon tableau Cowgirl Story #1. Je vais faire tirer une série d’épreuves limitées (25 exemplaires) et signées du tableau à un format plus petit. Chaque épreuve sera tirée sur le papier allemand Hahnemühle 100 % chiffon sans acide, blanc naturel en 308 gr/m2. L’impression ce fait avec des encres pigmentées “archives” sur une imprimante 12 couleurs pour une reproduction parfaite des couleurs de l’original. Le format du papier sera de 26 X 26 pouces, l’image fera 24 X 24, soit un bord blanc de un pouce tout le tour. Le prix de vente de l’épreuve est de 400 CAN $ taxes incluses.

Pour ceux que cela intéresse je peux me charger de faire encadrer l’épreuve sous vitre. Je suggère un cadre standard noir. L’encadrement est une boite noire de 2 pouces d’épaisseur, la face du cadre noir fait ¾ de pouce de largeur, il y a un espace entre la vitre et l’épreuve qui elle même est légèrement décrochée du fond, “flottante”. Le papier blanc en fond dépasse d’un pouce tout autour du tirage. Le format final de l’épreuve encadrée est un carré d’un peu moins de 30 pouces de côté.

Pour la vitre il y a deux options : soit une vitre d’encadrement régulière non teintée qui a une protection anti reflet en moyenne de 40 %, soit une vitre anti reflets spécialisée qui à une efficacité de 78 %, on ne voit pour ainsi dire pas la vitre. • Encadrement décris ci-dessus avec vitre d’encadrement anti reflets: 425,41 CAN $ taxes incluses.

Hi everybody, I just did a High definition scan of my painting Cowgirl Story #1. I’m going to produce a signed limited edition (25 copies) of the work on a smaller format. Each print will be printed on the German Hahnemühle 100 % cotton cloth acid free natural white paper, 308 gr/m2. The printing is done on a 12 colours printer with archival-pigmented inks for a perfect reproduction of colour. The paper size will be 26 X 26 inches, the visual 24 X 24, so there will be 1 inch white border all around. The selling price of the print is CAN $400 tax included.

For those who are interested I can take care of the print framing. I suggest a standard black frame. The frame is a black box, 2 inches thick, the front of the frame is ¾ inch wide, and there is a space between the glass and the print. The print itself is slightly lifted from the white background paper as a floating print in the frame. There is a space of one inch around the print. The final format of the framed print is a bit less than 30 inches square.

For the glass there are two options: a regular framing glass without tint that as a reflection protection of about 40 %, or a specialized anti-reflection glass that as a protection of 78 %, you nearly don’t see the glass. See the prices below, delivery in Montreal included:

• Framing as described above with an anti-reflections glass: CAN $425,41 tax included.
